I did this crazy thing and applied for a Fulbright Distinguished Teaching Award in the middle of pandemic teaching.
Amazingly, I was selected! Now I'm excited to share my journey. Not only am I thrilled that I will get to live for four months in Greece, I get to do research. I love research! But wait, there's more... I get to research three subjects that I'm passionately curious about because I know they can change the world: asset-based whole child education, the power of the individual educator, and multicultural inclusion to foster appreciation and the celebration of differences as beautiful! When I applied for this research opportunity, I titled my inquiry project: Transforming educator mindset to embrace cultural inclusion My mission: amplify educator voice to understand how policy and culture influence teacher mindset shifts related to the successful inclusion of refugees and immigrants. I will focus on asset-based thinking in relation to the inclusion of immigrant and refugee students in Greece with the goal of understand how policy and pedagogy intersect in the classroom to best facilitate teacher mindset shifts to an asset-based view towards refugees and immigrants' inclusion. Questions: What behavior do educators exhibit when they have an asset-based view of inclusive education policies and classroom pedagogy? What teacher attitudes and dispositions contribute to successful inclusive classroom environments?
